REGISTRATION
I receive a message saying "No more remaining licences" when I try to register Plant Wizard. Why?
All of your allocated licences are currently registered to other computers. You can transfer a licence from one PC to another by first unregistering Plant Wizard from one PC and then registering it on another. There is no need to uninstall the program as it will not unregister the licence.

ALLOCATION
Why are some seedlings showing as unsuitable?
Right-click on the grey cell in question and choose ‘Suitability’. There may be multiple reasons why the seedling item is unsuitable. If you need to confirm the suitability visually, click on the Options button. Under Prescription Fields and Seed/Seedling Fields, turn on the items being compared for both the prescription and the seedling item (ie. elevation, seed zone). This will allow you to see why a seedling item is considered unsuitable.

I have a seedling that says it is unsuitable because of 'Ecology/SPZ', why is it not suitable?
Check the seedling item seed class:

  • A Class seedling item: If the SPZ from the seedling item matches SZ(A) specified for that species in the prescription, it is suitable. Otherwise, check the ecology of the seedling item compared to the ecology of the planting unit. If it matches, it is suitable, if not, it is unsuitable.
  • B/B+ Class seedling item: If the SPZ from the seedling item matches SZ(B) specified for the planting unit in the prescription, it is suitable, if not, it is unsuitable.

How do I reallocate seed or seedlings while maintaining some of the current allocation?
For blocks that you want to leave untouched, change their status to 'Locked' or leave them unselected during the auto allocation process.

Why are some projects not visible?
Ensure you have the project selected under 'Options'.

SEEDLING DATA
How does the ‘Get Seedlot Info’ button work on the Seedling Details Screen?
If you have entered a seedlot number that already exists in the Seed Inventory Screen, the ‘Get Seedlot Info’ button will become active indicating that Plant Wizard can populate the seed information section of the seedling details for you (species, class, seed zone, ecology, latitudes, longitudes, and elevations).

DATA EXCHANGE
How do I exchange data with other Plant Wizard users?
Once you have set up your original database (.mdb file), click on the ‘Export’ button and select ‘Export data for another Plant Wizard user’. Follow through the steps, saving the .pw7 file to a location you will be able to find later. Either email or send that file via a disk to the other user. They will import it into their database.
When you receive data back from other users, save it to your computer. In Plant Wizard, click on the ‘Import’ button and select ‘Import data from another Plant Wizard user’, and navigate to the file just saved. Verify which data you would like to import (planned data, planting data, etc.).

Why is my .csv file not importing properly?
Check the following items:

  • make sure you have all 'mandatory fields' - see PW help manual
  • make sure all the column headers match those outlined in the PW help manual
  • make sure the block you are trying to import doesn't exist already in that database (PW will only import it once).

Why are some blocks not available for import from Genus?
The blocks must have in Genus: a Silviculture Prescription, planned planting activities with a base code ‘PL’ and a technique code other than ‘CG or SE’.

When I am importing my SPAR seed information for my sowing request, what is the Lot Owner Acronym and Lot Owner Client Loc for?
The Lot Owner Acronym is a 3-letter company code. The Lot Owner Client Loc. is a 2-digit location code representing your location within the company (both can be looked up on the SPAR website). If you leave the Lot Owner Client Loc. blank, all seed owned by the specified company will come in as the same priority. By entering this information, you are asking Plant Wizard to prioritize your imported seed as follows (by leaving Acronym and Loc. blank upon import, you will only get priority 3, 5, and 7):

  • Class A owned by Owner and Loc specified: Priority 2
  • Class A owned by anyone else (posted as excess on SPAR): Priority 3
  • Class B+ owned by Owner and Loc specified: Priority 4
  • Class B+ owned by anyone else: Priority 5
  • Class B owned by Owner and Loc specified: Priority 6
  • Class B owned by anyone else: Priority 7

This prioritizing is done so that the auto-allocation knows which seed to use first.

Plant Wizard cannot logon to the PW Server.
Ensure you have the correct Login and Password specified in Preferences: Plantwizard.com.

Why do some seedlings not download from PW Server?
Ensure you have the correct Year and Season specified in Preferences: Plantwizard.com. Alternatively, the seedlings on PW.com are not assigned to the correct Year and Season and need to be transferred (see the online PW.com help).

REPORTS
I cloned a report, and messed up. How do I get rid of it from the list of reports?
Click on the report you want to get rid of and look at the bottom of the screen. Note the file name and location of the report. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to that location, and delete the file. Click 'Refresh' on the reports screen back in Plant Wizard.

My inventory and silviculture labels are not showing up on my reports. What do I do?
In the bottom half of the Planting Unit screen, click on the Stand descr. tab. Enter the stand height, age, and crown closure if desired, then click on the S. label and I. label buttons. The labels will be populated to the right and will show up on your reports. If you make a change or add plots, ensure you follow these steps again to refresh the label information.

Some of my reports are greyed out in the Reports Screen, what is going on?
The reports that are available to you depend on what is highlighted in the tree to the left. If you have a project highlighted, the block level reports will not be available to you. Click on the item in the tree to see the associated reports.

There are no reports in my Reports Screen. What do I do?
Ensure you have the report directory pointing to the location where the Plant Wizard reports are stored. In the Preferences Screen under Advanced Setup, select the directory where your reports are saved.

PLANTING
I recorded all my planted trees on my handheld, but they don't show up on the Tree Planting Screen?
The handheld tracks planter tallies, which is what the planters claim to have planted. Once those numbers have been hotsynced back to the desktop, they will show up on the Planting Tallies Screen. To report the final planting numbers you will need to enter the actual planted numbers into the Tree Planting Screen. To do this, double-click on the cell where you wish to enter a number. If you have tallied your trees by PU, clicking on the 'All' button will populate the cell with the sum of all tallied trees. If you would like the planted number to equal all deliveries to a PU, choose 'All cache deliveries'. You can also enter planted numbers manually.

When I’m in the Tree Planting Screen, can I quickly compare my planted numbers to the allocated numbers or the planted tallies?
Click on the Options button and choose Display Options. You can select to see the planting numbers plus either comments, fertilizer/protection, estimated boxes, allocation, or planted tallies. These additional fields will appear in the top left corner of the cells where you enter the planted numbers.

HANDHELDS
My Palm will not hotsync properly. What’s wrong?
There are several things that may cause this. Please check the following items:

  • Did you install the Palm software (that came with the Palm) on the computer you are trying to hotsync with, for the login that you are using?
  • Have you downloaded the Plant Wizard Palm Installer on that computer, for that login AFTER you have installed the Palm software?
  • In your system tray (bottom right corner of computer), is the Hotsync Manager icon (blue & red arrows) visible?
  • If not, go into your Palm directory in Windows Explorer and double-click on the icon to activate it.
  • If yes, right-click on it and select 'Custom'. Look in the conduit listing to make sure the Plant Wizard conduit is turned on.

USERS MANUAL
Where is the help manual?
In the Preferences Screen under Advanced Setup, ensure you have specified the directory where your help file (plantwizard.chm) is stored. Manuals are also available in .PDF on this website.

top

ACCESSIBILITY
Why are some screens not visible?
Ensure you have the screen or function checked in Preferences: Plant Wizard Screens.

top

PROJECTS
How do I manage multiple projects?
If the seedlings can be shared between projects, you can use one database with multiple projects. If the seedlings cannot be shared between projects, you must use one database per project.

MAPPING
How do I prevent layers that don’t apply to any blocks from showing up on the legend when I print?
Ensure that the layers you don’t need are unchecked in the map window before choosing the print button.
