REGISTRATION
I receive a message saying "No more remaining licences" when I try to register Survey Wizard. Why?
All of your allocated licences are currently registered to other computers. You can transfer a licence from one PC to another by first unregistering Survey Wizard from one PC and then registering it on another. There is no need to uninstall the program as it will not unregister the licence.

REPORT
Why are my stems per hectare calculations missing or wrong on my reports?
Check the following:
- Plot area must be entered on the Stratum Tab
- Target stems per hectare must be entered in the standards section.
- Preferred and acceptable species codes in the standards section match species codes recorded at the plot level (ex. Pli vs. Pl, or Fdc vs. Fd)
- Only species identified in the standards as preferred or acceptable will be used in the well spaced calculations (you can change/update the standards as needed and the numbers will automatically be adjusted)
Why doesnt site index show up in my inventory and silviculture labels?
Check to see that you have a site index entered on the Stratum Details Tab for the leading species in each of the labels (make sure the species codes match exactly).
Why are some of the reports greyed out?
Certain reports are available depending on what is selected in the tree on the left of your screen (ex. project, block, or stratum). To change what is selected, left click on the project, block or stratum label.
I cloned a report, and messed up. How do I get rid of it from the list of reports?
Click on the report you want to get rid of and look at the bottom of the screen. Note the file name and location of the report. Open windows explorer, navigate to that location, and delete the file. Click 'Refresh' on the reports screen back in Survey Wizard.
There are no reports in my Reports Screen. What do I do?
Ensure you have the report directory pointing to the location where the Survey Wizard reports are stored. In the Program Setup under Advanced Setup, select the directory where your reports are saved.
I did a multi-story survey with 5 plots, so why does the report says there are 6 plots?
Ensure that the examiner is the same for each of the layers within a single plot. If the examiner is different between layers, SW will think it is a different plot.
I want to run a report for stratum 1, but only stratum 3 is showing up?
In fact, when you run the report, all of the strata are summarized, each on a different sheet in Excel. You are automatically shown the last page (the last stratum). In Excel, on the bottom left side of your screen, click on the tabs to see the stratum you wish.

DATA EXCHANGE
Why isnt my .csv file importing properly?
Check the following:
- All the mandatory fields are available see SW help manual
- All the column headers match those outlined in the SW help manual
- The block you are trying to import doesnt already exist in the database (SW will only import it once).
How do I exchange Survey Wizard data with my contractor?
Once you have set up your original database (.mdb file), click on the Export button and select Survey Wizard export type. Follow through the steps, saving the .sw file to a location you will be able to find later. Either email or send that file via a disk to your contractor. They will import it into their database.
When you receive data back from your contractor, save it to your computer. In Survey Wizard, click on Import->from SW Export file, and navigate to the file just saved. Verify that it is the latest file, and whether you would like to update stratum information as well.
Why are some blocks not available for import from Genus?
The block in Genus must have the following:
- An Operating Area assigned to them in the Block Details Screen
- A silviculture activity planned for the year(s) requested during the import process. This activity must either have a Base Code of SU or be marked with a checkmark beside CurrStat in the Genus Silviculture Maintenance table.
- Ecology Units must exist for the block
- The Silviculture Prescription must have Standards Units
- The Ecology Units must be linked to Standards Units

HANDHELDS
My Palm will not hotsync properly. Whats wrong?
There are several things that may cause this. Please check the following items:
- Did you install the Palm software (that came with the Palm) on the computer you are trying to hotsync with, for the login that you are using?
- Have you downloaded the Survey Wizard Palm Installer on that computer, for that login AFTER you have installed the Palm software?
- In your system tray (bottom right corner of computer), is the Hotsync Manager icon (blue & red arrows) visible?
- If not, go into your Palm directory in Windows Explorer and double-click on the icon to activate it.
- If yes, right-click on it and select 'Custom'. Look in the conduit listing to make sure the Survey Wizard conduit is turned on.
